Paul Bettis

Role: Quantity Surveyor
Office location: London
Joined the team: May 2019

Why Base?

Becoming chartered is currently my biggest goal. Base offered the level of APC support I was looking for as well as the opportunity to get involved with a variety of projects in both Quantity Surveying and Expert Witness work. My previous role was exclusively focused in the infrastructure sector so, coming to Base, it’s been great to get involved in a diverse range of projects across a number of different sectors.

What had you been doing previously?

I was working for Transport for London as an Assistant Commercial Manager.

What skills and qualities do you feel you bring to Base?

I’m a strong communicator and determined to do well. This means I am prepared to put the work in, ensuring I provide maximum satisfaction for the clients I represent whilst also pursuing my own personal goals.

What would you like to achieve in your first year at Base?

I’d like to become chartered; I’m hoping to sit my APC assessment in November.

How are you finding the APC process so far?

It’s time consuming and hard work, however it was much more difficult at my previous company. Base offer a lot of guidance and daily liaison with experienced RICS members and assessors. This is allowing me to confidently progress with the APC process, knowing I am heading in the right direction.

What are your career aspirations for the future?

Once chartered and in the not-too-distant future, I’d like to become a Senior Quantity Surveyor. After that, I’ll have to see how many promotions Base can give me! With the way Base is growing I would like to think that there is a real possibility of managing my own team and pursuing an Associate Director role in the next 5 years!

If you could ask for one thing from Base to support your career and development, what would it be?

Just a good level of APC support!

Base offer a lot of guidance and daily liaison with experienced RICS members and assessors. This is allowing me to confidently progress with the APC process, knowing I am heading in the right direction.
