Base Walks for Justice

01 July, 2019

On Monday 17th June, over 15,000 people embarked on a 10km journey across the capital for the annual London Legal Walk. Among them, representing Base Quantum in their debut appearance was Emma Honeysett, Anthony Youlton and Shaun Balding.

Whilst the total is yet to be calculated, the walk is expected to have raised over £850,000 – far surpassing last year’s record-breaking total. This money will go to a great cause; helping to support law centres and legal advice agencies in providing pro bono services to vulnerable individuals across London and the South East. This, in turn, will contribute towards the reduction of debt, poverty, homelessness and injustice.

With beautiful weather and a great atmosphere, the walk itself began outside the Law Society’s Hall. It took the crowds past some of London’s most iconic attractions, including the Horse Guards Parade, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square.

Base’s Shaun Balding said of the event:

To see a constant line of hundreds of teams walking around the Serpentine was a truly outstanding moment and, as the Sun was in full support, we even managed to get a halfway ice cream refreshment en-route!

With a free exhibition at the Law Society after the event and plenty of food and drink stalls at the finish line, the London Legal Support Trust did an excellent job at putting on a fantastic event. Base look forward to rallying the troops and entering a much larger team next year.
