Why Base?
I have known Base’s CEO, Duncan since we were both young, aspiring quantity surveyors and our paths have crossed many times over the years as we have developed our careers in the UK and overseas. I have watched him start up Base and have seen how he has developed and progressed the business, now with the support of his directors and the ever-growing number of commercial consultants.

Joining Base was a no brainer; it has been cultivated with experience and care for its clients, work, and employees and is a growing venture that has no limits. Being part of a young inspiring business that cares about the progress of the company, alongside its people and clients, makes everything worthwhile and I look forward to seeing the heights Base has reached in five years’ time!

What were you doing prior to joining Base?
I have been involved in construction disputes in the UK and internationally for over 20 years, working with contractors and clients to manage the dispute resolution process. I have extensive experience in defining and delivering commercial strategies to meet clients’ requirements, including the analysis, preparation and resolution of contractual entitlements with employers, contractors and their supply chain subcontractors.

What are your areas of expertise?
I am a Quantity Surveyor by profession and have over 30 years’ experience in all realms of the construction industry, ranging from residential, commercial and fit out, to highways and infrastructure, airports and ports. My experience in dispute resolution is complemented by my quantity surveying knowledge; I manage consultant teams and drive the delivery of entitlement claims and dispute resolution assignments through to successful conclusion with the client and client teams.

I have been engaged in the analysis, preparation and submission of a number of claims for extension of time, delay related costs, disruptive working, disruption-related costs and commercial matters. I have also been closely involved with client teams, providing advice, guidance and support for commencing and progressing adjudications, litigations and arbitration proceedings.

What skills and qualities do you feel you bring to Base?
I am professional and have a personable nature that is reflected in my continued client relationships. This, alongside my wealth of expertise, allows me to provide clients with the comfort that all matters will be addressed to the highest standards, with the best possible results.

In any team I work in I build relationships with ease and am always available to provide support and/or advice to help the team progress their own careers and aspirations.

What makes Base different?
Base is a relatively young company but has a driven leadership team and a strong reputation in the world of construction disputes and expert services and is already internationally renowned.

The support, training and growth that Base provides for its employees assists its team, the industry and the future of construction disputes, ensuring qualified and experienced persons can manage the process going forward.

What about your role at Base is most exciting for you?
Building the Base Midlands team! The Midlands and the North of England is an expanding area for construction which is currently experiencing exceptional economic growth; there are many opportunities for Base to support the industry and grow its team.

How do you see the industry changing over the next 5 years?
I see the requirement for our role in managing construction disputes growing exponentially following the Covid‑19 pandemic. Whilst many cases will naturally end up in a formal dispute process, we should remain focused on other methods of resolution, for example settlements and mediations.

What are your career aspirations for the future?
To continue to manage the Base Midlands team and provide support, advocacy and guidance on commercial, contractual and construction dispute matters to the Midlands and North of England, drawing on our wealth of local and international experience.


What motivates you?
Knowing that our work is supporting our clients’ needs and assisting them in bringing matters to conclusion with the most favourable outcome for their business and assisting others in progressing their careers and training both in Base and the industry.
