Why Base?
I was looking for a UK-based position after working in the Middle East for 7 years and Base stood out to me due to the ambition of the leadership and the values of the organisation. Base’s brand is well‑respected in the world of construction disputes and expert services and has gained great momentum over the years. Its combination of expert work and traditional quantity surveying services has proved to be the ultimate recipe for success.

Base has a great attitude to work-life balance, and emphasis is placed on personal growth and teamwork to ensure standards are upheld and deadlines are achieved.

Where did you work and what were you doing previously?
I have over 13 years’ experience in the construction industry: five years as a consultant in major projects, plus eight years in pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying roles, working in a variety of regions including the UK, UAE, Oman and Saudi Arabia. In this period, I gained experience in construction claims, completed a Master’s degree in Construction Law and Arbitration and became a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

What do you feel you bring to Base?
With construction project experience in building, civil engineering, major infrastructure, aviation and rail projects for government as well as private sector clients, I bring a wide array of experience and knowledge.

I would regard myself as being interpersonal, a good listener and a team player. I am quick to understand the works required on a project and provide clear instructions to others.

What are your areas of expertise?
Contracts, including FIDIC, JCT and NEC, as well as procurement, construction claims, variations, and delay and disruption analysis.

What excites you most about your current role?
Having the opportunity to work on international arbitrations as well as UK-based adjudications, litigations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution in a variety of sectors. In addition, drawing on the wealth of experience from our renowned expert witnesses and gaining both in-depth knowledge and techniques in resolving major disputes.

I have to constantly be aware of the independent nature of a quantum expert witness’ role; all opinions relating to a dispute must be provided for the sole purpose of assisting the courts in making a decision.

What are your career aspirations for the future?
To be well respected in the world of forensic expert work and become a practicing expert witness running my own commissions from inception to completion, and to give back to the industry by nurturing new talent.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced at Base so far?
I have to constantly be aware of the independent nature of a quantum expert witness’ role; all opinions relating to a dispute must be provided for the sole purpose of assisting the courts in making a decision.

Favourite book or film and why?
The Celestine Prophecy, this book is an easy read telling the story of a man’s discovery of a higher state of consciousness, awareness and the ticket to your most inspired life and greater self.

What motivates you?
Simplifying complex problems, adding value and assisting clients in overcoming disputes by providing clear resolutions; and knowing that every day I will be better at what I do than I was yesterday.
