Background

This traffic improvement project involved road widening, resurfacing and the construction of a new traffic loop to alleviate congestion and reduce accidents on a roundabout used annually by 2.9 million vehicles. The works included:

  • Carriageway widening and U turn facility;
  • Traffic signal and pedestrian controlled crossing installation;
  • New footways;
  • Highway surface and drainage upgrade;
  • Lighting system upgrade;
  • Vehicle restraint system and fencing installation; and
  • New brick faced retaining wall, drainage bypass, spillage containment/storm balancing channel.

Base Quantum provided quantity surveying and supervision services for this contractually and commercially complex scheme, including:

  • Monthly valuations of progress and payment;
  • Analysis of contractor quotations;
  • Compensation event assessments (cost and time impact on planned completion);
  • Contractual communications, including tracking and recording;
  • Evaluating early warning notices and managing risk register;
  • Contractual and commercial advice.
